Nairobi, Kenya

We arranged the trip so we would have five nights at the Nairobi Hyatt where we could mostly just rest in preparation for our second tour which starts tomorrow. Neal secretly hoped that being in Kenya would somehow make him a faster runner, but that has not been the case.

The Hyatt has been a good place to rest. This is the interior of the hotel.

We did venture out twice, once to walk about five blocks to a market and once to take a four hour tour. Simply crossing the street was an adventure with all the traffic and motorbikes darting in and out of traffic.

This is a view from the hotel. Nairobi has many different styles of buildings, with crowded roads and people walking in the street, or along it.

On our tour we made two stops. The first was to the Nairobi  Gallery, which is a national museum.

The second stop was, well, do you recogize this from a movie that came out in 1985? Starred a Vassar grad.

This is the Karen Blixen House from the movie "Out of Africa", and before that Karen Blixen's book, and before that Karen Blixen's house. A very interesting visit, but there are no pictures are allowed inside. So you will have to settle for a picture of the coffee press. You may remember that the coffee business went bankrupt.

And from the grounds, a pretty flower.

Our second tour starts tomorrow with a five hour bus ride to Amboseli National Park.  We will post when we can.
